Much like the Ancient Greek institution it is named after, Proxenia Legal has the international expertise to advise and represent you abroad.
Proxenia Legal was founded in 2018 by Dr Julian Wyatt upon his return to Melbourne, Australia after a decade working on international disputes in Geneva, Switzerland and around the world.
Julian Wyatt, Principal
Barrister & Solicitor (Victoria, Australia)
PhD in International Law (Geneva, Switzerland)
Julian Wyatt is an Australian-qualified barrister and solicitor with substantial experience in different types of cross-border disputes. Over the last 14 years, Julian has acted as counsel for States in several investment treaty arbitrations and annulment proceedings (under ICSID and UNCITRAL rules), for Australia in the Whaling in the Antarctic (Australia v Japan) case before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and for a range of Fortune 500 companies in transnational disputes (including before domestic courts) and commercial arbitrations (ICC, LCIA and Swiss Rules), particularly in the domains of finance, joint ventures and intellectual property. He also acted as an assistant to arbitral tribunals.
Julian not only has broad experience, but also substantial expertise in a wide range of international legal fields, allowing him to go beyond arbitration to give balanced advice on the international dispute resolution option most favourable to his clients. Julian's knowledge of both public and private international law is demonstrated by several publications (in English, French and German) in each of these fields as well as a number of teaching and speaking engagements on a broad range of topics of international law.
As the principal of the firm and the key intermediary in the teams that Proxenia Legal brings together, Julian Wyatt helps Australian clients understand in familiar terms what cross-border disputes require, while offering international clients high-quality written and oral advocacy skills together with the rare mix of expertise necessary for the full range of issues arising in international disputes.
In December 2018, Julian was listed as a Future Leader in Arbitration in Who's Who Legal (WWL/GAR).

Independent Disputes Lawyers
Having worked closely in teams with international disputes lawyers from all over the world, Proxenia Legal's lawyers can call on disputes lawyers from countries across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa, North America and South America -- and recommend foreign lawyers with the confidence that comes with knowing how they work.
Moreover, Proxenia's network consists of lawyers who practise independently or in boutique firms, meaning that you will be given advice or represented without the cost and structural interests of the major international law firms traditionally dominating this highly-specialised area. The lawyers used by Proxenia have the expertise you need and do the work themselves.
