I am an Australian-qualified disputes lawyer working in Melbourne, Australia with substantial experience in various common law and civil law systems and expertise in public international law.

Over the last 15 years, I have acted as counsel for States in several investment treaty arbitrations and annulment proceedings (under ICSID and UNCITRAL rules), for Australia in the Whaling in the Antarctic (Australia v Japan) case before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and for a range of Fortune 500 companies in transnational disputes and commercial arbitrations (ICC, LCIA, AAA and Swiss Rules), particularly in the domains of finance, joint ventures and intellectual property.  I have also acted as an assistant to arbitral tribunals.  I am recognised as a Future Leader in Arbitration by Who's Who Legal (WWL/GAR) and was rated a National Leader for Australia in Arbitration by Who's Who Legal in 2020.

I teach and publish (in English, French and German) in areas of law including the law of treaties, dispute settlement before international courts and tribunals, international commercial arbitration, investment arbitration, international trade law, international environmental law, international humanitarian law, private international law and the law of contracts.  My first book, Intertemporal Linguistics in International Law, on treaty interpretation through time by international courts and tribunals is now available in bookstores.
